BLACK.

While black crept into my wardrobe last fall and kept creeping and creeping, I remember how I felt so on trend. Feeling like I had betrayed my girly destiny, I kept wearing black and after a short while, didn't look back.

Of course you hear everyone your whole fashion life from Coco Chanel to your ever-so-cool aunt from NY tell you its classic and the perfect choice when in doubt. I guess I always ignored it because it seemed too easy.

Lately I've been feeling lost again, wondering what the next underground fashion forward item is. Today I decided that I should take advantage of the crap economy and buy into this simple golden rule, instead of new fuschia and yellow printed dresses. After all wearing tons of black makes you look thinner, richer, trendier, smarter... not to mention embracing the slinky darkness that overcomes within.

When you are standing in front of your closet that looks like a black hole that could suck you into nothingness, step back put your leopard chunky wedge heels from Topshop on and jump in.

Back to School Blues

The air turns cooler, plaid and leather invade your closet and your nails are already painted a midnight blue. It's finally September - but you still live in Texas. A 90 degree day makes you want to pull out your newest jacket for Fall that you bought in late July. But your favorite season is near!

There are things that I will forever miss about back to school shopping that I can't enjoy as a college grad. Arguing with my mom about what carefully crisscrossed red skirt was too short or spreading out everything from our shopping trips on the hotel room bed to admire my choices. The smell of new drawing erasers and the feel of the ever so classic black and white composition pad to scribble your daydreams in - oh wait, that was grade school...

Luckily I can still enjoy breaking in new winter boots, picking out the latest circle scarf and perusing Opening Ceremony and Topshop for the coolest trends of this season to inspire me.

This Toga outfit from Opening Ceremony might give you the 'back to fall' feeling that you've been waiting all summer for...

Plaids, pinks and paints

With my early nineties pink Minnie Mouse cropped tee, baby pink mini shorts with ruffles down the side and silver high-top cons double tied on my feet - I was a pretty cool 8 year old.

Remembering how amazing I felt in this outfit (those shoes!) is one of my earliest memories of how what you wear can make you feel like a superstar.

Andre 3000 put it best when he said he dresses like the music sounds to him. I have always respected fashion for this reason. For the rebellion, the creativity. Your body is a canvas, right?

Charles Anastase is my favorite example of this at the moment (Fall 2009/10).

Oh and that jacket was the exact shade of my shorts too.

Babys brain and an old mans heart

My biggest love that precedes my love of fashion is music. I'll be sharing a lot of that on here as well. I think this song says a lot. So rad and sexy.

Watching the Michael Jackson memorial today, so sad. rip Michael.

I'm definitely going to be sporting my military vest much more in honor of him.

Never coming in 2nd.

Every girl has her weaknesses. Candy colored martinis, drippy nude lip gloss in luxe golden containers or sky-high, exotic skin black pumps to teeter on top of.

My top two have forever been the little black skirt and the cool tee shirt. These two define so much of what I want my style to exude.
Laid-back and effortlessly cool.

New York label Sophomore has captured my heart for both lately, with graffiti-like fonts and exposed, easy to zip down body conscious skirts.

You don't need to be a 2nd year high-schooler to get your hands on these, just click here.
